This paper consists of sections A, B and C with a total of eleven (11) questions.
Answer all questions in section A and B and two questions from section C
Section A carries sixteen (16 marks), Section B carries fifty four (54 marks) and section C carries thirty (30 Marks).
Non-programmable calculators and mathematical tables may be used.

A convex mirror is often used as the wing mirror of a car instead of plane mirror. Justify this statement giving one point.
The angle of minimum deviation for a prism is 370. If the angle of the prism is 600, find the refractive index of the material of the prism.

Why is it not be practical to make a barometer with water instead of mercury?
A force 0f 200 N and 20 cm long spanner and 150 N and 30 cm long spanner were separately used to loosen the left and right front car tire, respectively. Show that the 30 cm long spanner will be more effective than the 20 cm long spanner.

Why while swimming, the swimmer pushes the backward with his hands?
Figure I show two simple machine A and B having the same efficiency. Justify that simple machine A requires minimum effort to raise a load of 5000 N.
A vehicle moves from rest with a uniform acceleration of 1.5m/๐ ๐ 2 for the first 10s and continues accelerating at 0.5m/๐ ๐ 2 for a further 20s. It continues at constant speed for 90s and finally takes 30s to decelerate uniformly to rest.
Draw a graph of speed against time for the journey.
From your graph, deduce the total distance travelled.

Quantities in physics can be classified as scalar or vector quantities. By giving three examples in each one differentiate between the two quantities.

Mention laws that are used to operate the vector quantities in (a) above.
Use the law you have stated in (b)(i) to find the resultant of two forces of magnitudes 50N and 70N acting at a point making an angle of 450 between them.

(a) A swimming pool appears to be 1.5m deep. The refractive index of water is 1.3.
Determine the real depth of the pool.
Explain why the pool appears shallower than its actual depth.

(a) An object 25cm high is placed 60cm away from a convex mirror of radius of curvature 30cm.
Determine the characteristics of the image formed by both using the mirror formula and drawing a suitable ray diagram
