This paper consists of sections A, B and C with a total of eleven (11)questions.
Answer all questions in section A and B and only two (2) questions from section C.

7. (a) Why is water used as a coolant in car engines? (4 marks)
(b)Dry steam is passed into a well-lagged copper can of a mass 250g containing 400g of water and 50g of ice at 0°C. The mixture is well stirred and the steam supply is cut off when the temperature of the can and its contents reaches 20°C. Neglecting heat losses, find the mass of steam condensed.(Specific heat capacities: water, 4.2J/gK; Copper, 0.4J/gK.Specific latent heats: steam, 2260 J/g; ice, 336J/g ) (5 marks)
8. (a) Madam Angela Is an IT at U.B.N Company, she was trouble shooting a laptop motherboard by using a multimeter and unfortunately, she discovered that an electronic device labeled 20F has some energy ;draw its electric symbol of this device and give its uses.(4 marks)
(b) Assume that your father does not know the mode of action of the lighting conductor. With clear labeled diagram explain the mode of action of lighting conductor to him.(5 marks)
SECTION C (30 Marks)

9. (a) The figure below shows a flex to the 13A – 3 pin plug which has been incorrectly fitted.
List the mistakes and suggest the corresponding remedies (6 marks)
(b) What would happen if the plug was connected to the mains sockets? (4 marks)
(c) A cell supplies a current of 0.6A through a 2 Ohms resistor and current of 0.2A through a 7 Ohms resistor. Calculate the e.m.f and the internal resistance of the cell.(5 marks)
10. (a)The velocity of car A relative to car B is 5m/s when the two cars are moving in the same direction and 15m/s when the two cars are moving in the opposite directions. Determines the velocity of each car (10 marks)
(b) A projection lautern is used to project a slide measuring 3cm × 3cm onto a screen 12cm from the projection lens. If the size of the screen is 1.5m × 1.5 m, how far from the lens must the slide be for the image to fill the entire screen? (5 marks)
11. (a) Why are electrical cables left sagging during installation on hot days and taut during cold?(4 marks)
(b) A brass plate has a hole whose radius is too small for an iron rivet to fit in. Explain the way that the rivet can be made to fit in the hole. (5 marks)
(c) A fixed mass of gas occupies a volume of 1.0 x 10³ m³ at a pressure of 76cmHg. What volume does it occupy at 17℃ if its pressure is 72cmHg? (6 marks)
